- Complete CISTAR Onboarding Survey; we will share this information with our speakers.
- RSVP for the Welcome Lunch so we have information about any food restrictions.
DUE WEDNESDAY, MAY 19 (THESE WILL REQUIRE YOUR PURDUE EMAIL ADDRESS)
- Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) This online training will take approximately 2 hours. You can find the assignment on Brightspace at Weekly Assignments -> Week 0. See below about Brightspace.
- Purdue - Lab Safety Fundamentals
- Chemical EngineeringLab Safety online training
- Email the “Record of Completion” Certificate received upon completion of the course to maeve@purdue.edu.
PURDUE EMAIL
- You will need to use your Purdue email address to access several of the systems we will be using this summer. Call Purdue ITAP at 765-494-4000 (https://itap.purdue.edu), which is open 24 hours. Tell them that you are a visiting student in the CISTAR program on the West Lafayette campus and would like to set up your email address and password before you arrive on campus. They will also tell you your PU ID number.
- You will need to provide the following:
- Career account (this will be emailed to you by CISTAR)
- Date of birth
- Home address
- You will need to provide the following:
***NEW*** PU ID CARD
- After you set up your Purdue email and password, you should submit a photo for the PU ID card you will use while you are on campus. This is the card you will use for the library, the gym (if you buy a membership), and the bus.
- Go to this website and submit a photo according to the guidelines.
- On Monday, after the welcome lunch, we will take you to the card office to pick up the card.
COMMUNICATION
- During the program, we will mainly use SLACK to provide you with updates; you will receive an invitation to join the group.
- The REU Google Calendar provides information and links for various meetings and events.
BRIGHTSPACE (LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM)
- Before you arrive on campus, your Purdue email address will be added to the
SURF Brightspace website. - Please use Brightspace to turn in all of your assignments electronically.
DRESS CODE
- If you are working in a lab, you will need closed toe shoes
- Dress most days is casual
- You will one business casual outfit for the poster session (collared shirt or equivalent, dress pants or skirt)
TRAVEL TO PURDUE

- Parking is permitted in areas designated for residence hall permits (these have white signs). Do not park in spaces marked A/B/C or other specialty spaces.
- If you are coming on the airport shuttle, Lafayette Limo, you will be dropped off at Purdue West, where we will meet you to take you to the residence hall, which is very close by.
- You will be living in First Street Towers Residence Hall.
- Location on Google Maps, the main entrance is on First Street.

MOVING IN
- Check-in is Sunday, May 21, 1:00 - 5:00 PM Eastern
- We will meet in the first-floor lounge of the main building for pizza at 6:00 PM; there will be an orientation with residence hall staff at 7:00 PM
- These are single rooms with private bathrooms
- Bed linens, blanket, pillow with pillow case, towel and washcloth are provided. Sheets and towels will be exchanged once a week.
- Washers and dryers are provided on the floors at no charge. They are located behind the dinette area.
- Each floor has two large-screen TVs located in the shared living room.
- AT&T wi-fi is a free service provided for use with any wireless capable device.

- Meal Plan - you will have a meal plan to cover the following at Wiley Dining Court.
- Breakfast, Monday - Friday,
- Lunch, Saturday, and Sunday
- Dinner, Monday - Sunday
- The residence hall will have a kitchen on your floor, and you will be provided with a small refrigerator for your room.
- We will help you place an order for delivery from the local Walmart. You can buy snacks and supplies for your first week this way. From then on, you can take the bus to one of the local grocery stores; see the link to the bus system below.
DAY 1 - MONDAY, MAY 22
- Meet Jose at the main entrance to First Street Towers at 7:45 AM to go to Breakfast at Wiley Dining Court, location.
- Morning on your own
- Meet Jose at the main entrance to First Street Towers at noon to go to FRNY.
- Welcome Lunch, 12:30 - 2:00 PM, to meet the CISTAR team, your faculty mentor, and your graduate mentor.
- Meet Jose at the main entrance to FRNY at 2:00 PM to go on a campus tour

- Purdue Recreational Wellness Center (Co-Rec), a monthly membership is $40

- Citybus to local grocery stores, etc. Kroger, Walmart, Meij r.
- Purchasing through Amazon while on campus
EMERGENCY PREPARATION
Sign up for emergency text messages at http://www.purdu .edu/securepurdue/. Click
on the "Change Your Password" icon, and log in. Then click on emergency contact
information in the right column under the account tools list. Finally, enter your cell phone
number. (Please get in touch with your service provider to ensure that your phone can receive
such messages.) To be removed from the text system, follow the above procedures and
delete your cell phone number.
