By joining the Materials & Catalysis Research Capability at ExxonMobil Technology and Engineering Company, you will be an integral technical contributor to novel material synthesis, characterization, and testing for separations & catalysis applications.

What you will do

Develop and apply synthesis, characterization, and evaluation techniques for novel materials used in separations or catalytic applications across ExxonMobil Business Divisions; Upstream Company, Product Solutions Company, and Low Carbon Solutions.

Guide material development to targeted applications through the build-up of structure-property correlations. Includes the discovery of novel materials, utilization of advanced characterization techniques, and ability to run and guide experimental units to inform transport or kinetic performance. 

Work collaboratively within cross-discipline teams with expertise in materials development, experimentation, modeling, process engineering, and scale-up activities. Active participation with the internal and external scientific community is expected.

Skills and Qualifications 

  • Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science & Engineering or related discipline with relevant thesis work.
  • Organic/inorganic materials synthesis skills, particularly with zeolites, metal oxides, or organic framework systems.
  • Advanced materials characterization skills, including state-of-the-art in-situ and ex-situ techniques.
  • Demonstrated capacity for critical and creative thinking is essential. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Lab or pilot scale experimentation for separations or catalysis processes. Competency in related areas of solid state chemistry, computational chemistry, electrochemistry, materials formulation, or process chemistry.
  • A track record of strong external publications and presentations, and a desire to continue to interact with the external technical community.
